Jain M, Hoppe T, Bressers H (2017) Analyzing sectoral niche formation: the case of net-zero energy buildings in India. This article presents a state of art on utilization of different hollow bricks as well as the incorporation of various waste materials to achieve thermally efficient building blocks. Also, some of the researchers have studied the incorporation of hollow bricks in the building envelope to reduce heat losses. Various researchers examined and utilized different waste materials such as olive pomace ash, fly ash, straws, jute fibres, etc., for the replacement of clay bricks either partially or fully. ![]() The recent trend of developing more sustainable buildings resulted in looking past the use of clay bricks. Clay-based construction materials are being used around the globe for building construction which has high heat losses from the building envelope. To reduce the heating and cooling load of the building sector, the incorporation of sustainable materials having good thermal insulating properties is a key way to move towards a sustainable future along with reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It also consumes a huge amount of energy during the operational period to maintain the desired comfort conditions inside the confined space. One of the most significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions is the building sector, as it produces greenhouse gas emissions associated with building construction materials. ![]()
